Quick Answer

How much is a Ford worth for scrap in 2026?

A Ford Fiesta is worth GBP 120 to GBP 245 for scrap and GBP 230 to GBP 400 for salvage. A Ford Focus is worth GBP 145 to GBP 280 for scrap and GBP 270 to GBP 460 for salvage. A Ford Transit is worth GBP 230 to GBP 450 for scrap and GBP 420 to GBP 780 for salvage depending on wheelbase and engine. Honest John data for February 2026 cites small cars such as the Fiesta at GBP 250 to GBP 280 and medium cars such as the Focus at GBP 300 to GBP 350 for scrap. Collection is free UK-wide and payment is by bank transfer on collection day.
The Ford Focus was the most scrapped individual car model in the UK for eight consecutive years before being displaced in 2025. The Ford Fiesta ranks fourth in the current UK scrap top ten, and the Ford Transit entered the top ten for the first time in 2025. Ford and Vauxhall have been the two most scrapped brands in the UK for years running. Whether your 1.0 EcoBoost has a failed wet belt, your PowerShift gearbox is stuck in limp mode, or your Transit TDCi has a snapped timing belt, Scrap a Vehicle buys it as-is. Why Do Ford Owners Scrap Their Cars?

The most common reasons Ford owners scrap their cars are 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt degradation causing oil pump blockage and engine failure, PowerShift DPS6 dual-clutch gearbox mechatronic failure, Ford Transit TDCi timing belt snap, 1.6 TDCi timing belt snap (a known class-action fault), and DPF failure on diesel models used for urban short trips. When repair costs exceed vehicle market value, scrapping or salvage returns the best financial result.

EcoBoost Wet Belt Degradation

The Critical Date Distinction

The 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine powers the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, and EcoSport. First-generation units from 2012 to late 2019 use a belt-in-oil (wet belt) timing system. Unlike a conventional dry timing belt, the wet belt runs submerged in engine oil. When oil changes are missed or the wrong oil grade is used, the rubber belt degrades. Small fragments break off into the oil, blocking the oil strainer in the sump and starving the oil pump. The failure cascade is rapid: blocked oil pump, oil starvation, turbocharger bearing failure, and total engine seizure. Wet belt replacement costs GBP 800 to GBP 1,200. Full engine replacement after a failed wet belt costs GBP 2,500 to GBP 6,000. At this cost on a Fiesta or Focus worth GBP 1,500 to GBP 3,500, most owners scrap.
Ford updated the 1.0 EcoBoost from December 2019 with a dry timing chain, eliminating the wet belt fault. Mild hybrid (mHEV) EcoBoost variants also use a chain. If your 1.0 EcoBoost Ford was registered from 2020 onwards, it does not have the wet belt — the chain is maintenance-free. For pre-2020 models, wet belt service history is the single most important factor in determining whether the engine is still serviceable.

PowerShift DPS6 Dual-Clutch Gearbox Failure

The PowerShift 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox — officially designated DPS6 — is fitted to Fiesta and Focus automatics produced from 2011 to 2018. It is a dry-clutch DCT design with a known weak point in the mechatronic unit (combined valve body and electronic controller). Symptoms appear from approximately 40,000 to 80,000 miles: jerky low-speed shifts, shuddering on pulling away, hesitation between gears, and a P0700 transmission warning code indicating gearbox control system fault. A mechatronic unit replacement on a Focus PowerShift costs GBP 2,000 to GBP 3,000. Full clutch pack replacement costs GBP 1,500 to GBP 2,500. Complete gearbox replacement costs GBP 3,500 or more. Ford issued multiple software updates to address judder, but the fundamental mechanical wear is not resolved by software alone. For Fiestas and Focuses worth GBP 1,500 to GBP 3,500, these repair costs make scrapping the more economic choice.

1.6 TDCi Timing Belt Snap

The Class-Action Fault

The Ford 1.6 TDCi diesel engine — fitted to the Focus Mk2, Mk3, Fiesta, C-Max, and Galaxy — has a documented history of timing belt failure at intervals well below the Ford-recommended replacement schedule. The belt tensioner and water pump are prone to premature failure, causing the timing belt to snap without warning. Belt snap on a diesel interference engine destroys the head and valves without exception. Ford faced legal action in multiple European markets over this fault. A full engine replacement or rebuild after 1.6 TDCi belt snap costs GBP 2,200 to GBP 4,500. Most owners scrap rather than fund the repair on a 10-to-14-year-old Focus or Fiesta.

Ford Transit TDCi Timing Belt

The Commercial Vehicle Risk

The Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi (Duratorq) diesel engine used in Transit Mk7 and Mk8 vans (2006 to 2019) uses a rubber timing belt that must be replaced at 125,000 miles or 10 years. Many high-mileage commercial Transit operators miss the replacement interval, especially when the van changes hands without a full service record. Belt failure destroys the engine. A Transit with a snapped TDCi timing belt is almost always scrapped — engine replacement costs GBP 2,500 to GBP 5,500 on a van worth GBP 1,500 to GBP 6,000 depending on age. The later Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engine (2019 onwards) uses a timing chain rather than a belt, eliminating this specific failure mode.

DPF Failure on TDCi Diesel Models

Diesel particulate filter failure is a consistent reason for scrapping older Ford TDCi models. Short urban journeys prevent the DPF from reaching the temperature needed for passive regeneration. Active regeneration — triggered at motorway speed above 2,000 rpm — is often absent in city-only driving patterns. Soot accumulates, triggering a warning light and eventually limp mode. DPF forced regeneration at a Ford specialist costs GBP 100 to GBP 250. Full DPF replacement on a Focus or Fiesta TDCi costs GBP 900 to GBP 2,000. On a Focus or Fiesta TDCi with other high-mileage faults, DPF failure is frequently the final cost that tips the balance toward scrapping.

Ford Scrap and Salvage Prices by Model

Updated: February 2026

Ford scrap values range from GBP 120 for a high-mileage Fiesta or Ka to GBP 450 for a Transit Custom or Ranger. The Focus and Fiesta are the first and fourth most scrapped individual car models in the UK respectively, creating the highest buyer competition and strongest parts demand of any brand. Honest John data from February 2026 cites small Ford models at GBP 250 to GBP 280 and medium models at GBP 300 to GBP 350 for scrap.

Ford is the second most scrapped brand in the UK after Vauxhall. The combination of very high historical sales volumes and average vehicle age of 17 years creates a steady and large supply of end-of-life Fords entering the scrap market annually. The largest pool of independent Ford specialists and breakers in the UK keeps salvage prices competitive for any Ford model with working mechanical components.

Should You Scrap Your Ford or Sell It for Salvage?

Updated: February 2026

Scrap a Ford when the 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt has failed and destroyed the engine, the 1.6 TDCi timing belt has snapped, the Transit TDCi belt has failed and the engine is seized, or the car is a Category B write-off. Sell for salvage when the engine runs and the fault is mechanical, electrical, or cosmetic. All Focus ST, Fiesta ST, and Mustang models should always be assessed for salvage first — performance engine components carry high second-hand market value.

Scrap is the right choice when...

Salvage pays more when...

1.0 EcoBoost wet belt has failed and oil pump is blocked

Engine runs despite PowerShift DPS6 fault or suspension issue

1.6 TDCi timing belt has snapped and engine is bent

Post-2019 chain EcoBoost model -- fault is not engine-related

Transit TDCi belt snapped and engine has seized

Transit with EcoBlue chain engine -- gearbox or accident damage only

Category B insurance write-off (crush-only designation)

Focus ST or Fiesta ST with engine running -- high parts demand

Catalytic converter stolen or removed

Ranger or Kuga PHEV with drivetrain intact

Fire or flood damage throughout vehicle

Mustang or Mustang Mach-E with powertrain and battery intact

Is There a Ford Scrappage Scheme in 2026?

There is no active Ford manufacturer scrappage scheme in 2026. Ford participated in the UK Government’s national scrappage scheme in 2009 and ran its own trade-in promotions in subsequent years, including electric vehicle incentive programmes for the Mustang Mach-E. No Ford-specific scrappage scheme is currently active. Location-based clean air zone schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible owners.

The 2009 UK Government scheme ran from May to March 2010 and offered GBP 2,000 off any new car for owners trading in a vehicle over 10 years old. Ford was one of the highest-volume participants, using the scheme to accelerate Fiesta and Focus sales. The scheme was a one-off government stimulus measure and has not been reinstated as a formal programme by any manufacturer.

Ford has run periodic trade-in promotions for electric and hybrid models, particularly for the Mustang Mach-E and Kuga PHEV. These are discount incentives tied to specific model launches rather than scrappage schemes, and they expire with each promotional period. Check ford.co.uk for any current offers.

For owners outside clean air zone areas, or those with vehicles that do not qualify for CAZ schemes, scrapping through a licensed ATF provides the best return without eligibility restrictions, means testing, or geographic requirements. The Ford Fiesta and Focus are among the most liquid scrap vehicles in the UK — quotes are strong due to high buyer competition.

Legal Requirements When Scrapping a Ford in the UK

To legally scrap a Ford in the UK you must use an Authorised Treatment Facility licensed by the Environment Agency. Cash payments are prohibited under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. You must notify the DVLA using Section 9 of the V5C or online at gov.uk. The ATF must issue a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days. Failing to notify the DVLA leaves you liable as the registered keeper for any charges against the vehicle.

Licensed ATF only

Only Authorised Treatment Facilities licensed by the Environment Agency can legally process an end-of-life vehicle under the End of Life Vehicles Regulations 2003. Using an unlicensed buyer leaves you legally responsible for the vehicle and any environmental liability arising from its disposal.

No cash payments

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments for scrap vehicles in England, Scotland, and Wales. Payment must be by bank transfer or cheque. Any buyer offering cash is operating illegally. Report them to your local authority licensing team.

Notify DVLA

Complete Section 9 of the V5C logbook and post to DVLA, or notify online at gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle. Without notification you remain the registered keeper and are liable for road tax, camera penalties, and parking fines issued after the vehicle leaves your possession.

Certificate of Destruction

The ATF must issue a CoD within 7 days. This is the legal record that the Ford has been permanently destroyed and deregistered. Only the issuing ATF can reprint a lost CoD. DVLA cannot reissue it.

Road Tax Refund

Remaining full months of VED are refunded automatically by DVLA after deregistration, by cheque to your registered address within 4 to 6 weeks. Part months are not refunded.

Retain Private Plates

Apply to retain a personalised plate before collection using a V317 form or online at gov.uk. Once the Ford is scrapped the plate is permanently destroyed and cannot be recovered.

How much is a Ford Focus worth as scrap?

A Ford Focus (Mk2 to Mk4) is worth GBP 145 to GBP 280 for scrap and GBP 270 to GBP 460 for salvage in early 2026. Honest John's 2026 scrap guide cites medium cars like the Focus at GBP 300 to GBP 350. The Focus was the most scrapped individual car in the UK for eight consecutive years to 2024, creating the strongest buyer competition of any single model. A Focus with a running post-2019 chain EcoBoost engine commands the highest salvage values.

What is the most scrapped Ford in the UK?

The Ford Focus is the most scrapped Ford and was the most scrapped individual car model in the UK for eight consecutive years before being displaced by the Vauxhall Astra in 2025. The Ford Fiesta ranks fourth nationally in the 2025 scrap top ten, and the Ford Transit entered the top ten for the first time in 2025. Ford is the second most scrapped brand in the UK after Vauxhall, accounting for a substantial share of all vehicles scrapped annually.

Is there a Ford scrappage scheme in 2026?

No. There is no active Ford scrappage scheme in 2026. Ford participated in the UK Government's national scheme from 2009 to March 2010 and has run periodic electric vehicle trade-in promotions since, including Mustang Mach-E incentives. None of these are currently active. Location-based clean air zone schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible owners. For everyone else, scrapping through a licensed ATF provides the best return without eligibility restrictions.

How much is a Ford Fiesta worth for scrap?

A Ford Fiesta (Mk6 to Mk8) is worth GBP 120 to GBP 245 for scrap and GBP 230 to GBP 400 for salvage in early 2026. Honest John's 2026 guide cites small cars like the Fiesta at GBP 250 to GBP 280 for scrap. Ford discontinued the Fiesta in 2023, creating a growing used parts market as fewer Fiestas are available for spares. Post-2019 chain EcoBoost and Fiesta ST models with the 1.5 EcoBoost 200 PS engine command the highest salvage premiums.

Can I scrap a Ford without a V5C logbook?

Yes. You can scrap a Ford without a V5C provided you can demonstrate legal ownership through other documentation. The ATF can still process the vehicle and issue a Certificate of Destruction. You should notify the DVLA independently to remove the vehicle from your name and stop road tax liability. Contact us before booking collection if your V5C is missing -- the procedure is straightforward and we can advise on the required documentation.

What is a Ford ST worth for salvage?

Ford ST models should almost always be assessed for salvage rather than scrap. The Focus ST Mk3 and Mk4 with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost (engine code M8MA, 280 to 350 PS) carry strong second-hand engine values. The earlier Focus ST Mk2 with the Volvo-derived 2.5 five-cylinder (ST225) also attracts enthusiast salvage demand. Fiesta ST models with the 1.5 EcoBoost 200 PS or the older 1.6 EcoBoost 182 PS command premiums from performance specialists. A running ST engine assembly can add GBP 400 to GBP 900 or more to a salvage quote.

Does the 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt fault affect scrap value?

A Ford with a failed 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt is still accepted for scrap or salvage. If the wet belt has degraded, blocked the oil pump, and seized the engine, the vehicle is valued on weight and catalytic converter alone. If the engine still turns over and the fault is limited to belt condition, a salvage buyer may offer above the scrap rate to carry out a wet belt replacement or source a reconditioned engine. Post-December 2019 models with the dry timing chain are not affected by this fault.

Can I scrap a Ford that is on finance?

Not until the finance is fully settled. Under a hire purchase or PCP agreement, the finance company legally owns the vehicle. You cannot scrap, sell, or transfer ownership while a balance is outstanding. Request a settlement figure from your lender, pay it, and obtain written confirmation before booking collection. A personal unsecured loan not secured against the vehicle is different -- in that case you already hold legal title and can proceed immediately.
