Quick Answer

How much is a Nissan worth for scrap in 2026?

A Nissan Micra is worth GBP 75 to GBP 185 for scrap — the Micra has the third-lowest scrap value of any mainstream car in the UK, at 40.9% below the average (ScrapCarComparison 2023 data). A Nissan Qashqai is worth GBP 175 to GBP 340 for scrap. A Nissan Juke is worth GBP 150 to GBP 290 for scrap. A Nissan Leaf is worth GBP 120 to GBP 270 for scrap. Nissan scrap values are calculated on vehicle weight — the Qashqai, X-Trail, and Navara return the strongest prices. Condition, MOT status, and faults including CVT failure or battery degradation do not reduce the scrap price.
The Nissan Micra is the most scrapped Nissan in the UK at 28% of all Nissan scraps, followed by the Qashqai at 24% and the Note at 9% (ScrapCarComparison data). The Qashqai entered the UK top five most scrapped models overall in 2025 — the first time it has reached that threshold. Whether your Qashqai or Juke CVT automatic has failed with the REOF11/JF015 bearing collapse fault, your Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T has logged timing chain fault codes P0016 or P0017, or your Nissan Leaf has degraded past the P0AA6 battery capacity threshold, Scrap a Vehicle buys every Nissan at a guaranteed price based on vehicle weight. Nissan GT-R R35 models with the VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 are assessed for salvage premium simultaneously with the scrap price — the system always returns the higher value.

Why Do Nissan Owners Scrap Their Cars?

Nissans are scrapped most often due to: Qashqai and Juke CVT automatic gearbox bearing failure (REOF11/JF015 unit, GBP 2,850-6,800 replacement), Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T timing chain stretch (fault codes P0016/P0017, cold-start rattle, 2014-2018 production), Nissan Leaf battery capacity degradation below the P0AA6 threshold (12-bar gauge drops, range severely reduced), high-mileage Micra accumulated MOT failures, and DPF failure on 2.0 diesel Qashqai models. Nissan’s reliability is above average for the industry — the most scrapped Nissan year is 2005, consistent with cars reaching scrap at 18 to 20 years old.

Nissan Qashqai and Juke CVT Gearbox Failure

REOF11 / JF015 Unit

The Nissan Qashqai J10 (2006-2013) and J11 (2014-2021) fitted with the CVT automatic gearbox, and the Nissan Juke fitted with the 1.6-litre petrol CVT, use the REOF11 CVT unit (also coded JF015). This unit is fitted with steel ball bearings in the primary and secondary pulley shafts that are undersized relative to the load they carry. The bearings collapse, typically between 20,000 and 60,000 miles. When a bearing fails, metal debris is generated and blocks the oil feed holes to internal components. The result is progressive CVT damage — symptoms begin with shuddering at low speed, a clattering noise at idle in Park or Neutral (which disappears when Drive is selected), loss of drive under acceleration, and ultimately complete CVT failure. CVT replacement on the Qashqai or Juke costs GBP 2,850 to GBP 4,500 for a remanufactured unit from a specialist, or GBP 5,000 to GBP 6,800 for a new unit from a Nissan dealer. On a 2010 to 2015 Qashqai worth GBP 3,000 to GBP 7,000, this repair cost is sometimes economic on lower-mileage examples, but on higher-mileage cars it frequently makes scrapping the more rational outcome. Nissan extended CVT warranty to 10 years in the USA following legal action, but no equivalent extended warranty was offered in the UK. Owners who push back against Nissan GB may receive a goodwill contribution toward the repair cost, particularly on cars with a full Nissan dealer service history.

Nissan Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T Timing Chain

Fault Codes P0016 and P0017

The Nissan Qashqai J11 and Nissan Juke fitted with the 1.2-litre DIG-T turbocharged petrol engine (HRA2DDT engine code, 2014-2018 production) is subject to timing chain stretch and tensioner failure. The timing chain on the HRA2DDT is designed with a shorter-than-standard pitch and a plastic primary guide that wears progressively. Chain stretch causes the crankshaft position and camshaft position sensors to fall out of correlation, logging fault codes P0016 (Crankshaft Position-Camshaft Position Correlation, Bank 1 Sensor A) and P0017. The most obvious symptom is a cold-start rattle from the engine bay that disappears as the oil pressure builds — a sound Qashqai owners call the ‘death rattle’. Timing chain replacement on the Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T costs GBP 800 to GBP 1,400 at an independent specialist, including chain, tensioner, and guides. On a Qashqai worth GBP 4,000 to GBP 9,000, this repair is often economic on lower-mileage examples. However, on high-mileage 2014 to 2018 Qashqais where the chain has been left unattended and the fault codes have been present for some time, engine damage from oil starvation can extend the repair cost significantly. Qashqais with P0016/P0017 codes and an audible cold-start rattle that runs otherwise are commonly accepted by salvage buyers who can carry out the chain repair economically.

Nissan Leaf Battery Degradation

Fault Code P0AA6

The Nissan Leaf is the world’s first mass-produced and mass-market all-electric car, launched in 2010. The Leaf uses a lithium-ion battery pack displayed on the dashboard as a 12-segment capacity gauge. As the battery degrades with age and cycles, segments disappear. Fault code P0AA6 (High Voltage Battery Pack Deterioration) is logged when the battery capacity falls below Nissan’s acceptable threshold — this is often associated with dropping to 9 or fewer bars on the 12-bar capacity gauge. On first-generation Leaf models (ZE0, 2010-2017), the battery is air-cooled. Air-cooled lithium-ion batteries degrade faster in warm climates or heavy use. UK-market Leafs have degraded more slowly than warmer-climate markets, but high-mileage first-gen Leafs still commonly reach 8 to 10 bars within 10 to 14 years. Nissan Leaf battery replacement at a dealer costs GBP 3,500 to GBP 7,000 depending on pack size (24kWh, 30kWh, or 40kWh). Specialist remanufactured packs are available from GBP 1,500 to GBP 3,000. On a first-gen Leaf worth GBP 2,500 to GBP 5,000, battery replacement is often uneconomic unless a specialist remanufactured pack is used. A Nissan Leaf with degraded battery is accepted for scrap at the weight-based price and simultaneously assessed for salvage — buyers who can rebalance or replace the battery economically will pay a premium above the scrap weight price.

Nissan Micra

Why Is the Scrap Value So Low?

The Nissan Micra (K11, K12, K13 generations) is one of the cheapest cars to scrap in the UK. According to ScrapCarComparison’s 2023 Scrap Car Report, the Nissan Micra is the third least valuable car to scrap in the UK, with the average price quoted sitting 40.9% below the national average — only the Fiat Punto at -41.6% and the Renault Clio at -29.8% are lower-value models for scrap in the mainstream segment. The reason is straightforward: scrap value is calculated primarily on vehicle weight. The Micra K11 weighs only 760 to 870 kg and the Micra K12 weighs 935 to 1,050 kg. Less metal means a lower scrap return, regardless of condition. This is important context for Micra owners who may expect a better return from scrapping a well-maintained car. The scrap price for a Micra reflects its weight, not its condition. A 2005 Nissan Micra K12 in excellent condition returns the same scrap price as one with a failed engine. For Micra owners, the salvage route — where buyers purchase the car to resell or part-out — may return a premium above the weight-based scrap price if the car has a running engine and low mileage. Enter your reg and the system will price both routes.

Nissan Scrap and Salvage Prices by Model

Updated: February 2026

Nissan scrap values range from GBP 75 for a Micra K11 to GBP 430 for a Navara or Patrol in early 2026. The Nissan Micra is the third least valuable car to scrap in the UK at 40.9% below average (SCC 2023 data) — this is because scrap value is based on weight and the Micra is among the lightest mainstream cars sold in the UK. Larger Nissans — Qashqai, X-Trail, Navara — return proportionally stronger prices. The Nissan Qashqai entered the UK top five most scrapped models overall in 2025.

Should You Scrap Your Nissan or Sell It for Salvage?

Updated: February 2026

Scrap a Nissan when the Qashqai or Juke CVT has catastrophically failed with widespread metal debris contamination and the repair cost exceeds the vehicle’s value, when the Leaf battery has degraded to 6 or fewer bars and dealer battery replacement is uneconomic, or when a high-mileage Micra has accumulated multiple repair needs that together exceed its market value. Sell for salvage when the engine runs and the car is in reasonable structural condition. The Nissan GT-R R35 should never be scrapped — always offer for salvage first regardless of condition.

Scrap is the right choice when...

Salvage pays more when...

Qashqai/Juke REOF11 CVT failed catastrophically -- metal debris throughout, rebuild uneconomic

Qashqai/Juke CVT with early-stage bearing noise -- engine runs, transmission still drives

Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T with severe P0016/P0017 chain damage -- engine oil-starved

Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T with P0016/P0017 cold-start rattle only -- chain repair is single fix

Nissan Leaf with 6 or fewer bars -- dealer battery replacement cost exceeds car value

Nissan Leaf with 8-10 bars -- battery still functional, strong salvage demand

High-mileage Micra K11 with multiple faults -- scrap return reflects low weight accurately

Any Nissan GT-R R35 in any condition -- VR38DETT and drivetrain parts always command premium

Category B insurance write-off (crush-only designation)

Navara NP300 pickup in any condition -- used commercial Navara demand very strong UK market

Fire or flood damage throughout vehicle

Any Juke NISMO RS (1.6T 218hp) -- performance version with strong used parts demand

Is There a Nissan Scrappage Scheme in 2026?

No active Nissan scrappage scheme exists in 2026. Nissan’s most recent standalone scrappage scheme was the ‘Nissan Switch Up’ programme, which offered GBP 1,800 to GBP 6,000 off a new Nissan when trading in an older vehicle. The Nissan Switch Up scheme ended on 31 December 2020 and has not been restarted. Nissan also participated in the UK Government’s 2009 national scrappage scheme and ran a complementary ‘Trade-in’ deal for vehicles aged 8 to 10 years old (the government scheme required 10+ years). No new Nissan scheme has been announced for 2026. Location-based clean air zone schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible owners of non-compliant Nissans.

Nissan’s scrappage history is the most substantial of the Japanese brands covered in this series. Unlike Honda and Land Rover, which have never had standalone manufacturer scrappage schemes, Nissan ran both a Trade-in offer alongside the 2009 government scheme and a full standalone ‘Switch Up’ scheme in 2020. The Switch Up scheme was notable for its generous trade-in values (up to GBP 6,000) and was a genuine competitive response to other manufacturer schemes at the time. Its ending in December 2020 was not followed by a replacement programme.

Nissan is the largest car manufacturer in the UK. The Nissan Manufacturing UK plant in Sunderland, which opened in 1986, is the biggest car plant in Britain and has been named the most productive car plant in Europe on multiple occasions. The Micra, Qashqai, Juke, and Note — the four most scrapped Nissan models in the UK — were all manufactured in Sunderland. Nissan Sunderland currently produces the Qashqai, X-Trail e-POWER, and Juke. The plant has a direct stake in Nissan’s UK scrappage narrative: cars made in Sunderland, scrapped in the UK, recycled in the UK.

Legal Requirements When Scrapping a Nissan in the UK

To legally scrap a Nissan in the UK you must use an Authorised Treatment Facility licensed by the Environment Agency. Cash payments are prohibited under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. Notify DVLA using Section 9 of the V5C or online at gov.uk. The ATF must issue a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days. For a Nissan Leaf, X-Trail e-POWER, or Qashqai e-POWER with a high-voltage battery, the ATF must safely discharge and depollute the battery before processing.

Licensed ATF only

Only Authorised Treatment Facilities licensed by the Environment Agency can legally process an end-of-life vehicle under the End of Life Vehicles Regulations 2003. Using an unlicensed buyer leaves you legally responsible for the vehicle and any environmental liability from improper disposal of fluids, batteries, and catalytic converter material.

No cash payments

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments for scrap vehicles in England, Scotland, and Wales. Payment must be by bank transfer or cheque. Any buyer offering cash for your Nissan is operating outside ATF licensing conditions.

Notify DVLA

Complete Section 9 of the V5C and post to DVLA, or notify online at gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle. Without notification you remain the registered keeper and are liable for road tax, ULEZ or CAZ charges, and any penalties issued after the vehicle leaves your possession. b

Certificate of Destruction

The ATF must issue a CoD within 7 days. This is the official legal record that the Nissan has been permanently destroyed and deregistered. The issuing ATF is the only body that can reprint a lost CoD — DVLA cannot issue it.

Road Tax Refund

Remaining full months of VED are automatically refunded by DVLA after deregistration. Payment is by cheque to your registered address within 4 to 6 weeks. Part months are not refunded.

Retain Private Plates

Nissan Leaf, X-Trail e-POWER, Qashqai e-POWER, and Micra e-POWER contain high-voltage battery packs. The ATF is legally required to safely discharge and depollute these batteries before processing. Scrap a Vehicle uses only ATFs with EV and hybrid battery depollution certification.

How to Scrap Your Nissan

01

Get your guaranteed quote in 30 seconds

Enter your Nissan registration and postcode at scrapeavehicle.co.uk. Vehicle data is retrieved from DVLA records and matched against live scrap and salvage market rates. The Micra's lower weight -- and therefore lower scrap price -- is reflected accurately. The system simultaneously prices both scrap and salvage routes. A guaranteed price is returned in 30 seconds.

02

Book free collection -- same day or next day across most UK postcodes

Accept the quote and choose a collection slot. A flatbed recovery vehicle is dispatched. Your Nissan does not need to start, drive, or have a current MOT. Non-runners, CVT failures, EV battery faults, and accident-damaged Nissans are all collected on the same terms.

03

Hand over keys and paperwork -- approximately 15 minutes on site

Remove all personal belongings before the driver arrives. If your Nissan GT-R carries a personalised or cherished registration, apply to retain it using a V317 form or at gov.uk before collection -- once scrapped it cannot be recovered. Hand over the V5C logbook or Section 9 tear-off slip.

04

Receive payment by bank transfer on the same day

Bank transfer is sent while the driver is on site. DVLA notification is submitted on your behalf. Your Certificate of Destruction arrives within 7 days. Any remaining full VED months are automatically refunded by DVLA to your registered address.

How much is a Nissan Micra worth for scrap?

A Nissan Micra K11 is worth GBP 75 to GBP 130 for scrap and GBP 120 to GBP 240 for salvage in early 2026. A Micra K12 is worth GBP 95 to GBP 185 for scrap and GBP 150 to GBP 320 for salvage. The Micra has the third-lowest scrap value of any mainstream car in the UK, sitting 40.9% below the national average according to ScrapCarComparison's 2023 Scrap Car Report -- only the Fiat Punto (-41.6%) is lower among common models. The low value reflects the Micra's weight: the K11 weighs only 760 to 870 kg, making it one of the lightest mainstream cars ever sold in the UK. A running-engine Micra K12 or K13 with low mileage may return a modest premium above the scrap price via the salvage route.

What is the most scrapped Nissan in the UK?

The Nissan Micra is the most scrapped Nissan in the UK at 28% of all Nissan scraps (ScrapCarComparison data). The Qashqai is second at 24%, and the Note third at 9%. The Micra's dominance reflects its position as Nissan's highest-volume mainstream hatchback in the UK market from the early 1990s through 2010. In terms of overall UK scrap rankings across all brands, the Qashqai entered the top five most scrapped models in 2025 -- the first time it has reached that threshold -- as the original 2006-2013 J10 generation reaches end-of-life at scale.

Is there a Nissan scrappage scheme in 2026?

No. The most recent Nissan scrappage scheme was the 'Switch Up' programme, which ended on 31 December 2020 and has not been restarted. The Switch Up scheme offered GBP 1,800 to GBP 6,000 off a new Nissan when trading in a vehicle registered on or before 1 July 2013. Nissan also ran a Trade-in offer alongside the 2009 UK Government scrappage scheme. No new Nissan manufacturer scheme has been announced for 2026. Location-based clean air zone schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible owners of non-compliant Nissans.

What is the Nissan Qashqai and Juke CVT gearbox fault?

The Nissan Qashqai and Juke fitted with the CVT automatic gearbox use the REOF11 unit (also coded JF015). This CVT is fitted with undersized steel ball bearings in its pulley shafts. The bearings collapse prematurely -- typically between 20,000 and 60,000 miles -- generating metal debris that blocks internal oil feed holes and causes progressive CVT damage. Symptoms begin with shuddering at low speed, a clattering noise at idle in Park or Neutral, and loss of drive under acceleration. CVT replacement costs GBP 2,850 to GBP 6,800. Nissan extended this CVT warranty to 10 years in the USA following legal action by affected owners, but no equivalent extended warranty was offered in the UK.

What are fault codes P0016 and P0017 on a Nissan Qashqai?

Fault codes P0016 and P0017 on the Nissan Qashqai J11 1.2 DIG-T (engine code HRA2DDT, 2014-2018) indicate a timing correlation error between the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors -- most commonly caused by timing chain stretch. The 1.2 DIG-T uses a short-pitch timing chain with a plastic primary guide that wears progressively. Chain stretch causes the crank and cam positions to fall out of the specified correlation window. The classic symptom before the fault codes appear is a cold-start rattle that clears within 30 seconds as oil pressure builds. Timing chain replacement costs GBP 800 to GBP 1,400 at a specialist

Should I scrap or sell a Nissan GT-R?

A Nissan GT-R R35 should never be scrapped. The GT-R is powered by the VR38DETT twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine, paired with a Getrag dual-clutch gearbox and the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system. Individual components -- VR38DETT rebuild parts, turbocharger units, the Getrag gearbox, Brembo brake components, and Rays forged wheels -- command very high prices from the performance and motorsport aftermarket. A GT-R in any condition, including fire or accident damage, should always be offered to a specialist GT-R salvage buyer before any other route is considered. Enter your reg and the salvage price returned will be substantially higher than the scrap price based on weight.

Can I scrap a Nissan Leaf with a degraded battery?

Yes. A Nissan Leaf with a degraded battery -- whether showing fault code P0AA6 or simply reduced to fewer bars on the 12-bar capacity gauge -- is accepted for scrap or salvage at the same guaranteed price as any other Nissan Leaf. The battery degradation does not reduce the scrap price, which is based on vehicle weight. However, a Leaf with 8 or more bars and a running powertrain is often worth more for salvage than for scrap -- buyers who can rebalance the battery pack or replace individual modules economically will pay a premium. The ATF is legally required to safely discharge and depollute the Leaf's high-voltage battery before processing.
