Quick Answer

How much is a Toyota worth for scrap in 2026?

A Toyota Yaris is worth GBP 110 to GBP 260 for scrap and GBP 205 to GBP 390 for salvage. A Toyota Corolla is worth GBP 145 to GBP 290 for scrap and GBP 270 to GBP 480 for salvage. A Toyota Prius is worth GBP 150 to GBP 310 for scrap and GBP 280 to GBP 520 for salvage — a Prius with a dead hybrid battery (fault code P0A80) is still accepted at the full weight-based scrap price. A Toyota RAV4 is worth GBP 185 to GBP 370 for scrap and GBP 340 to GBP 610 for salvage. Collection is free UK-wide and payment is by bank transfer on collection day.
Toyota re-entered the UK top 10 most scrapped brands in 2025, accounting for 3.5% of all vehicles scrapped nationally — its first appearance in the top 10 since 2022. The Yaris accounts for 29% of all Toyotas scrapped, the Corolla 15%, and the Avensis 13% (ScrapCarComparison data). Despite Toyota’s strong reliability reputation, age and specific mechanical fault patterns eventually make repair uneconomic. A dead hybrid battery (P0A80), a failed Prius inverter (P0A94), high oil consumption from the 1ZZ-FE engine, or an Avensis 2.2 D-4D T180 with four failed injectors are all faults that push owners to scrap. Scrap a Vehicle buys every Toyota as-is — no MOT, no running order required.

Why Do Toyota Owners Scrap Their Cars?

Toyota cars are scrapped most often due to: Prius hybrid battery failure (fault code P0A80, replace hybrid battery pack, GBP 1,500-3,000), Prius or Auris inverter failure (fault code P0A94, GBP 1,500-3,000), oil consumption in 1ZZ-FE/3ZZ-FE engines (2000-mid 2005 Corolla and Avensis), Avensis 2.2 D-4D T180 injector failure (full 4-injector set, GBP 1,200-2,400), and DPF failure on CDT diesel models. Toyota’s above-average reliability means these cars reach higher mileages before scrapping — the average age of a scrapped Toyota is older than the UK average of 17 years.

Prius Hybrid Battery Failure

Fault Code P0A80

The Toyota Prius hybrid battery (the high-voltage nickel-metal-hydride or lithium-ion traction pack) degrades over time as individual cell modules within the pack age at different rates. When the voltage imbalance between modules — known as delta state of charge — reaches a critical threshold, the system triggers fault code P0A80 (Replace Hybrid Battery Pack) and illuminates the red triangle warning light on the dashboard. This is the most common reason a Prius owner is advised to scrap their vehicle. A full hybrid battery replacement for a Gen 2 (2003-2009) or Gen 3 (2010-2015) Prius costs GBP 1,500 to GBP 3,000 at a hybrid specialist. On a 2006 to 2010 Prius worth GBP 1,000 to GBP 3,500 depending on mileage, this repair cost is often uneconomic. A Prius with a dead hybrid battery is still accepted for scrap at the full weight-based price — the battery pack weight is included in the vehicle weight calculation. Scrap a Vehicle collects non-runners on a flatbed.

Prius and Auris Inverter Failure

Fault Code P0A94 and ZE3 Warranty Enhancement

The Intelligent Power Module (IPM) inside the Prius inverter assembly can fail due to thermal stress cracking in the transistors that handle high-current switching. This produces fault code P0A94 and can cause the car to stall at motorway speeds. Inverter replacement costs GBP 1,500 to GBP 3,000 at a Toyota dealer. However — and this is a critical point no competitor covers — Toyota issued the ZE3 Warranty Enhancement Programme, which extends inverter coverage to 15 years with unlimited mileage on certain 2010 to 2015 Prius models. If your Prius was registered between 2010 and 2015, contact Toyota GB with your VIN before spending anything on an inverter repair, as you may be entitled to a cost-free replacement under this programme. If your Prius is outside the ZE3 warranty window and the inverter has failed, the repair cost is typically uneconomic on pre-2013 models. A Gen 2 Prius with a failed inverter is accepted for scrap at full weight-based value. The catalytic converter on a Prius also carries above-average precious metal content and contributes to a higher scrap price relative to the vehicle’s size.

1ZZ-FE, 3ZZ-FE, and 4ZZ-FE Engine Oil Consumption

The VVT-i Fault

Toyota issued a Service Bulletin in May 2006 acknowledging excessive oil consumption in its 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engines produced from 2000 to mid-2005. The affected engine codes are the 1ZZ-FE (1.8 litre, used in Corolla and Avensis), the 3ZZ-FE (1.6 litre, used in Corolla), and the 4ZZ-FE (1.4 litre, used in Corolla). The fault stems from a combination of insufficient oil capacity, poor piston ring design, and oil-way sludging that causes the rings to harden and misshape the cylinder bores. Affected engines can consume 1 litre of oil per 600 miles. Toyota extended the warranty on these engines to 7 years/111,846 miles and offered a short-block replacement under the extended policy. However, the majority of affected vehicles are now well outside any warranty coverage — the youngest 1ZZ-FE Corolla built before July 2005 would be over 20 years old in 2026. On a high-mileage Corolla or Avensis with confirmed piston ring wear, a short-block rebuild costs GBP 1,200 to GBP 2,500. Many owners at this stage choose to scrap rather than rebuild.

Avensis 2.2 D-4D T180 Injector Failure

The Toyota Avensis T25 and T27 fitted with the 2.2 D-4D diesel engine in 150 PS (T180) and 177 PS (T270) forms uses high-pressure common rail injectors that are prone to wear-related failure at high mileage, particularly where low-quality fuel has been used. Unlike some diesel injector replacements where only one or two units need replacing, the Avensis 2.2 D-4D commonly requires all four injectors to be replaced as a matched set to ensure consistent fuelling across cylinders. A four-injector replacement set for the 2.2 D-4D costs GBP 1,200 to GBP 2,400 including labour at a Toyota specialist. The T180 Avensis is also affected by DPF blockage when used for short urban journeys, which can combine with injector wear to create repair bills that exceed the vehicle’s value at high mileage. Avensis T27 estates in good condition are nonetheless often worth more for salvage than scrap — estate body buyers and engine salvage demand remain strong.

DPF Failure on CDT Diesel Toyotas

DPF failure affects the Avensis CDTi, Auris CDTi, and RAV4 CDTi when operated predominantly on short urban journeys. The DPF requires sustained driving above 2,000 rpm at motorway speeds to complete a passive regeneration cycle. Forced regeneration at a Toyota specialist costs GBP 100 to GBP 250. Replacement of a fully blocked DPF costs GBP 800 to GBP 2,000. On an older Avensis or Auris CDTi worth GBP 1,000 to GBP 3,500, DPF replacement cost combined with other high-mileage faults frequently triggers the decision to scrap.

Should You Scrap Your Toyota or Sell It for Salvage?

Updated: February 2026

Scrap a Toyota when the Prius hybrid battery has failed and the car is pre-2009 with high mileage, when the 1ZZ-FE engine has seized due to oil consumption, or when a Category B write-off designation applies. Sell for salvage when the car still runs despite a cosmetic, gearbox, or minor mechanical fault. Always assess GR Yaris, Land Cruiser, and Hilux for salvage first — the engine and drivetrain components in these models command significant second-hand premiums.

Scrap is the right choice when...

Salvage pays more when...

Prius hybrid battery failed (P0A80), pre-2009 high mileage

Prius engine runs but has cosmetic/suspension fault -- hybrid system intact

Prius inverter failed (P0A94), outside ZE3 warranty window

2010-2015 Prius with P0A94 -- check ZE3 warranty before scrapping

1ZZ-FE engine seized due to oil consumption

1ZZ-FE burning oil but still running -- salvage buyer may still want it

Avensis 2.2 D-4D with all 4 injectors failed, engine not starting

Avensis T27 estate with DPF fault -- engine starts, body and interior intact

Category B insurance write-off (crush-only designation)

GR Yaris in any condition -- G16E-GTS parts demand is exceptionally high

High-mileage Yaris or Corolla with multiple faults, minimal value

Any Land Cruiser or Hilux that starts and moves under its own power

Is There a Toyota Scrappage Scheme in 2026?

No. There is no active Toyota scrappage scheme in 2026. The most recent Toyota scheme ended on 30 September 2020. Under that scheme, owners of vehicles registered on or before 30 September 2012 could receive GBP 2,000 off most new Toyota models, or GBP 4,000 off the Hilux or GR Supra. No scheme is currently active and Toyota has not announced a replacement. Location-based clean air zone schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible owners of non-compliant vehicles.

Toyota ran a series of manufacturer scrappage schemes to support sales of cleaner and hybrid models. The final scheme required a trade-in vehicle registered on or before 30 September 2012, owned by the current keeper for at least 6 months, with no restriction on fuel type. Savings ranged from GBP 2,000 on models including the Aygo, Yaris, and Corolla to GBP 4,000 on the Hilux and GR Supra. The scheme ended on 30 September 2020 and has not been restarted.

Toyota has not participated in any UK government-backed national scheme since the original 2009 programme and has not announced any manufacturer scheme for 2026. As a Japanese-owned manufacturer that has consistently led hybrid vehicle adoption in the UK, Toyota’s marketing focus is now on the bZ4X battery electric vehicle and the updated Prius PHEV rather than on trade-in incentive schemes.

Legal Requirements When Scrapping a Toyota in the UK

To legally scrap a Toyota in the UK you must use an Authorised Treatment Facility licensed by the Environment Agency. Cash payments are banned under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. Notify DVLA using Section 9 of the V5C or online at gov.uk. The ATF must issue a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days. For a Prius or hybrid Toyota, the ATF is legally required to depollute the high-voltage battery safely before processing the vehicle.

Licensed ATF only

Only Authorised Treatment Facilities licensed by the Environment Agency can legally process an end-of-life vehicle under the End of Life Vehicles Regulations 2003. This applies equally to conventional and hybrid Toyotas. An ATF must safely discharge and store the high-voltage battery pack from a Prius or hybrid before depollution and dismantling.

No cash payments

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments for scrap vehicles in England, Scotland, and Wales. Payment must be by bank transfer or cheque. Any buyer offering cash is operating illegally and outside ATF licensing conditions.

Notify DVLA

The ATF must issue a CoD within 7 days. This is the official record that the Toyota has been permanently destroyed and deregistered. For hybrid vehicles the CoD also confirms the high-voltage battery has been disposed of in compliance with ELV hazardous waste regulations.

Certificate of Destruction

The ATF must issue a CoD within 7 days of scrapping. This is the DVLA record that the vehicle is permanently destroyed. Keep it — only the ATF can obtain a reprint if it is lost, not the DVLA.

Road Tax Refund

Remaining full months of VED are automatically refunded by DVLA after deregistration. Payment is by cheque to your registered address, typically within 4 to 6 weeks. Part months are not refunded.

Retain Private Plates

Apply to retain a personalised registration using a V317 form or at gov.uk before collection. Once the Toyota is scrapped the plate is permanently destroyed and cannot be recovered.

How much is a Toyota Yaris worth as scrap?

A Toyota Yaris (P1, P9, XP130, or XP210 generation) is worth GBP 110 to GBP 260 for scrap and GBP 205 to GBP 390 for salvage in early 2026. The Yaris is the most scrapped Toyota in the UK, accounting for 29% of all Toyotas scrapped nationally (ScrapCarComparison data). The 1NZ-FE 1.0 and 1.3 litre petrol engines are known for longevity and do not suffer the oil consumption fault of the larger 1ZZ-FE, meaning a high-mileage Yaris with a running engine can attract salvage interest above the straight scrap price.

What is the most scrapped Toyota in the UK?

The Toyota Yaris is the most scrapped Toyota in the UK, accounting for 29% of all Toyotas scrapped. The Corolla is second at 15% of all Toyota scraps, and the Avensis is third at 13% (ScrapCarComparison data). Toyota as a brand re-entered the UK top 10 most scrapped brands in 2025 with a 3.5% market share -- its first top-10 appearance since 2022 -- reflecting an ageing population of early-2000s and mid-2000s models reaching end of life.

Is there a Toyota scrappage scheme in 2026?

No. There is no active Toyota scrappage scheme in 2026. The most recent Toyota scheme ended on 30 September 2020 and offered GBP 2,000 to GBP 4,000 off new Toyota models for owners trading in a vehicle registered before 30 September 2012. Toyota has not announced a replacement scheme. Location-based ULEZ and CAZ schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible Toyota owners with non-compliant vehicles.

Can I scrap a Toyota Prius with a dead hybrid battery?

Yes. A Toyota Prius with a failed hybrid battery -- including one showing fault code P0A80 (Replace Hybrid Battery Pack) or the red triangle warning light -- is accepted for scrap at the full weight-based price. The battery pack weight is included in the vehicle weight, so a dead battery does not reduce your scrap price. Before you scrap, if your Prius was registered between 2010 and 2015, check whether a failed inverter (fault code P0A94) is covered by Toyota's ZE3 Warranty Enhancement, which extends inverter coverage to 15 years with unlimited mileage. A cost-free dealer repair may still be available.

Does the 1ZZ-FE oil consumption fault affect my Toyota Corolla or Avensis?

The 1ZZ-FE oil consumption fault affects Toyota Corolla and Avensis models built between 2000 and mid-2005 with the 1.8 litre VVT-i engine (engine code 1ZZ-FE). The related 3ZZ-FE (1.6 litre) and 4ZZ-FE (1.4 litre) in the Corolla of the same period share the same design flaw. Toyota issued a Service Bulletin in May 2006 and extended the warranty on affected engines to 7 years/111,846 miles. All affected vehicles are now outside this warranty period. A compression test will confirm whether piston ring wear is causing oil consumption. If diagnosed on a high-mileage Corolla or Avensis, a short-block rebuild costs GBP 1,200 to GBP 2,500 -- often more than the car's value.

What fault code means my Prius needs a new battery?

Fault code P0A80 means Replace Hybrid Battery Pack and indicates the traction battery in the Prius has degraded to the point where the voltage imbalance between individual cell modules exceeds the system threshold. Fault code P0A94 relates to the inverter assembly rather than the battery itself and may be covered by Toyota's ZE3 Warranty Enhancement on 2010 to 2015 Prius models. Both fault codes illuminate the red triangle warning light. The hybrid system warning (yellow) is a less severe alert and does not always mean the battery needs replacing -- it can be triggered by a failed 12V auxiliary battery, a blown fuse, or a faulty sensor.

What is a GR Yaris worth for salvage?

A Toyota GR Yaris (GXPA16 generation) with the G16E-GTS 1.6 litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine (261 PS) is worth significantly more for salvage than scrap in virtually all conditions. The G16E-GTS engine is in high demand from performance and motorsport buyers, and the GR4 all-wheel-drive drivetrain and Torsen limited-slip differentials also attract specialist buyers. A GR Yaris with a running engine can realise GBP 750 to GBP 2,500 or more for salvage. If your GR Yaris has been written off or has sustained significant damage, enter your reg and you will automatically receive both the scrap and salvage prices to compare.

Can I scrap a Toyota that is on finance?

Not until the finance is fully settled. Under a hire purchase or PCP agreement, the finance company legally owns the vehicle until the final payment is made. You cannot legally scrap, sell, or transfer ownership while any balance remains. Contact your lender for a settlement figure, pay it in full, and obtain written confirmation before booking collection. A personal unsecured loan (not a finance agreement secured against the vehicle) is different -- in that case you already hold legal title and can proceed immediately.
