Quick Answer

How much is an Audi worth for scrap in 2026?

An Audi A3 is worth GBP 155 to GBP 280 for scrap and GBP 290 to GBP 480 for salvage. An Audi A4 is worth GBP 185 to GBP 310 for scrap and GBP 340 to GBP 520 for salvage. An Audi Q5 is worth GBP 240 to GBP 390 for scrap and GBP 430 to GBP 650 for salvage. Values depend on model weight, catalytic converter status, engine condition, and live scrap metal market rates. Collection is free UK-wide. Payment is by bank transfer on collection day.
The Audi A3 and A4 together make up around 66% of all Audis scrapped in the UK each year. Whether your TFSI has a timing chain fault, your DSG gearbox is throwing mechatronic error codes, or your 3.0 TDI has a snapped timing belt, Scrap a Vehicle buys it as-is. Why Do Audi Owners Scrap Their Cars?

The most common reasons Audi owners scrap their cars are EA888 2.0 TFSI timing chain failure, DSG DQ200 mechatronic unit failure, 3.0 TDI timing belt snap, and excessive oil consumption on longitudinally-mounted TFSI engines. When repair costs exceed the vehicle’s market value, scrapping or selling for salvage returns the best financial outcome.

EA888 2.0 TFSI Timing Chain and Tensioner Failure

The EA888 2.0 TFSI engine family powers the A3, A4, A5, Q3, and Q5. It uses a timing chain rather than a belt, but the tensioner design on pre-2012 engines is a documented weak point. A collapsed tensioner allows the chain to jump, causing pistons to strike valves. The fault codes are P0016 (crankshaft-camshaft correlation Bank 1) and P0017 (crankshaft-camshaft correlation Bank 2). A full timing chain replacement on an Audi A4 costs GBP 1,400 to GBP 2,600 depending on whether internal engine damage has occurred. Audi issued three tensioner revisions between 2010 and 2012. Pre-2010 EA888 engines are highest risk. Post-2013 examples use an improved chain design with a significantly better service life.

3.0 TDI Timing Belt Snap A Common Misunderstanding

Many Audi owners are unaware that the 3.0 TDI V6 diesel engine uses a rubber timing belt, not a chain. This applies to the A6 3.0 TDI, A7 3.0 TDI, Q5 3.0 TDI, and Q7 3.0 TDI. The belt must be replaced at 60,000 miles or 4 years — whichever comes first. A snapped belt destroys the engine without warning. A replacement timing belt kit on a 3.0 TDI costs GBP 900 to GBP 1,600. Combined with other age-related faults, many owners choose to scrap rather than invest further in a high-mileage diesel.

DSG DQ200 Mechatronic Unit Failure

The DQ200 7-speed dry-clutch DSG gearbox is fitted to A1, A3, and A3 Sportback models with smaller-capacity engines. It is a known weak point. The mechatronic unit — which contains the valve body and hydraulic control module — splits near the accumulator bore on high-mileage examples. Symptoms include jerky low-speed shifts, hesitation pulling away from junctions, a flashing wrench warning light, and in severe cases a complete refusal to engage drive. Mechatronic replacement costs GBP 1,500 to GBP 2,200 at an independent specialist, and more at Audi main dealers. For an older A3 worth GBP 2,500 to GBP 4,000, the repair is often uneconomic. The DQ250 wet-clutch DSG fitted to higher-powered models is significantly more reliable.

Oil Consumption on Longitudinal TFSI Installations

The 2.0 TFSI EA888 engine mounted longitudinally — as in the A4, A5, A6, and Q5 — consumes oil at a higher rate than the same engine mounted transversely in the A3. Consumption of one litre per 1,500 to 3,000 miles is documented on pre-2013 examples. The root cause is PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve failure allowing oil vapour into the intake, combined with piston ring wear on high-mileage units. An engine oil consumption repair on an A4 costs GBP 1,800 to GBP 3,200. Many owners choose to scrap once oil usage becomes unmanageable.

Carbon Build-Up on Direct Injection TFSI Engines

All Audi TFSI and TDI engines use direct injection, meaning fuel is sprayed directly into the cylinder rather than via the intake port. Intake valves therefore never receive a fuel wash. Carbon deposits accumulate on the back of intake valves over time, restricting airflow and causing misfires, rough idle, and power loss. Walnut blasting — the professional removal method — costs GBP 300 to GBP 600 on a 2.0 TFSI. This alone is rarely a reason to scrap, but combined with a mechatronic fault or timing chain issue, it pushes total repair cost well above vehicle value.

Audi Scrap and Salvage Prices by Model

Updated: February 2026

Audi scrap values range from GBP 140 for an early A1 to GBP 430 for a Q7 or e-tron. The Audi A3 averages GBP 177 for scrap according to national collector data, with the A4 averaging GBP 206. Salvage values are 40% to 80% higher than scrap when the engine and gearbox are intact. RS and S models carry the highest salvage premiums due to strong used parts demand. Audi sits above the market average for scrap value thanks to the VAG group’s use of aluminium body panels, high-specification alloy components, and above-average catalytic converter precious metal loadings. The A8 uses an all-aluminium spaceframe body, which significantly increases its metal value at the ATF.

Should You Scrap Your Audi or Sell It for Salvage?

Updated: February 2026

Scrap an Audi when the engine is destroyed, the catalytic converter is missing, or the car is a Category B insurance write-off. Sell for salvage when the engine and gearbox are intact and the fault is mechanical or cosmetic. All Audi RS and S models should be assessed for salvage first — performance engine components from the DAZA, TFKF, and CWUD engine families carry very high second-hand market value.

Scrap is the right choice when...

Salvage pays more when...

EA888 timing chain has jumped and caused valve damage

Engine runs despite fault -- DSG issue or suspension failure

3.0 TDI timing belt has snapped and destroyed the engine

Fault is structural, cosmetic, or trim-related

Category B insurance write-off (crush-only designation)

Category S or N write-off where parts retain full market value

Catalytic converter has been stolen or removed

RS or S model with performance engine intact

Fire or flood damage throughout the vehicle

e-tron or Q4 e-tron with battery pack in working condition

If your Audi is subject to a hire purchase or PCP finance agreement, the finance company holds legal ownership of the vehicle. You cannot legally scrap or sell the car until the outstanding finance is settled in full. Obtain a settlement figure from your lender, pay it, and get written confirmation before booking collection. A personal loan not secured against the car is different — in that case you already hold legal title.

Scrap or Salvage?

Scrap a AUDI when the 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt has failed, the 1.6 TDCi timing belt has snapped, or the car is a Category B write-off. Sell for salvage when the engine runs and the fault is mechanical, electrical, or cosmetic. Focus ST and Mustang models should always be assessed for salvage.

Is There an Audi Scrappage Scheme in 2026?

There is no active Audi manufacturer scrappage scheme in 2026. The last Audi scheme — the ‘Make the Switch’ e-tron offer — expired on 2 October 2023. It provided discounts of GBP 2,000 to GBP 5,000 on new electric Audi models for owners trading in any internal combustion vehicle. It has not been reinstated.

The 2023 Make the Switch scheme was aimed at boosting e-tron electric vehicle sales rather than operating as a traditional scrappage scheme. It did not require the trade-in vehicle to be scrapped — it could be a part-exchange in any condition. It could be combined with London’s ULEZ scrappage scheme for an additional GBP 2,000, bringing total potential savings to GBP 13,000 on an e-tron GT quattro. The offer ended on 2 October 2023 and has not returned.

Location-based clean air zone schemes remain available for eligible owners:

Legal Requirements When Scrapping an Audi in the UK

To legally scrap an Audi you must use an Authorised Treatment Facility licensed by the Environment Agency. Cash payments for scrap cars are illegal under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. You must notify the DVLA by completing Section 9 of the V5C or online at gov.uk. The ATF must issue a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days.

Licensed ATF Only

Only Authorised Treatment Facilities licensed by the Environment Agency can legally process an end-of-life vehicle under the End of Life Vehicles Regulations 2003. Using an unlicensed buyer leaves you legally responsible for the vehicle.

No Cash Payments

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments for scrap vehicles in England, Scotland, and Wales. Payment must be by bank transfer or cheque. Any buyer offering cash is operating outside the law.

DVLA notification

Complete Section 9 of the V5C and post it to the DVLA, or notify online at gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle. Failure to notify means you remain the registered keeper and are liable for road tax and any fines issued to the vehicle.

Certificate of Destruction

The ATF must issue a CoD within 7 days of scrapping. This is the DVLA’s record that the vehicle has been permanently destroyed. Keep your copy — only the issuing ATF can obtain a reprint.

Road Tax Refund

Any remaining full months of Vehicle Excise Duty are refunded automatically by DVLA after the vehicle is de-registered. This typically arrives within 4 to 6 weeks by cheque to your registered address.

Retain Private Plates

Apply to retain any personalised registration before the car is collected. Submit a V317 form or apply online at gov.uk. Once the vehicle is scrapped, the plate is permanently destroyed.

How much is an Audi A3 worth as scrap?

An Audi A3 (8P, 8V, or 8Y generation) is worth GBP 155 to GBP 280 for scrap and GBP 290 to GBP 480 for salvage in early 2026. The A3 is the most scrapped Audi in the UK, making up around 35% of all Audi scrap volumes. National collector data shows an average scrap price of GBP 177 across all A3 variants. Enter your reg for a live guaranteed price specific to your model.

What is the most scrapped Audi in the UK?

The Audi A3 and A4 are jointly the most scrapped Audis in the UK, each accounting for approximately 35% of all Audi scrap volumes according to national scrap comparison data. The A6 follows at around 12%. The A3 is the UK's best-selling Audi historically, which is why it dominates scrap volumes. Popular scrapped model years are 2005 to 2008, which are now approaching or past 18 years of age.

Is there an Audi scrappage scheme in 2026?

No. The last Audi scheme -- the 'Make the Switch' e-tron offer -- ended on 2 October 2023. It provided GBP 2,000 to GBP 5,000 off new electric Audi models for owners trading in any internal combustion vehicle. It has not been reinstated. Location-based schemes in London, Birmingham, and Scotland remain available to eligible residents. For all other owners, scrapping through a licensed ATF returns the best value without eligibility restrictions.

Can I scrap an Audi without a V5C logbook?

Yes. You can scrap an Audi without a V5C as long as you can demonstrate legal ownership through other documentation. The ATF can still process the vehicle and issue a Certificate of Destruction. You should still notify the DVLA to remove the vehicle from your name and stop road tax liability. Contact us before booking collection if your V5C is lost or outstanding.

What are Audi RS and S models worth for salvage?

Audi RS and S models should almost always be assessed for salvage rather than scrap. Performance engine parts from the RS3 (DAZA engine), RS4/RS5 (TFKF 2.9 biturbo), RS6/RS7 (CWUD 4.0 V8 biturbo), and S3/S4/S5 carry strong used market values. An RS6 salvage quote can exceed the scrap price by GBP 800 to GBP 1,500 or more. Enter your reg and the system compares both routes automatically.

Does the 2.0 TFSI timing chain fault affect scrap value?

No. An Audi with a jumped EA888 timing chain is still accepted for scrap or salvage. The timing chain fault codes P0016 and P0017 indicate camshaft-crankshaft correlation failure. If the engine has seized or suffered internal damage from valve contact, the vehicle is valued for scrap on weight and catalytic converter. If the engine turns over and the fault is limited to the chain and tensioner, a salvage buyer may still offer above the scrap rate to rebuild it.

Can I scrap an Audi that is on finance?

Not until the finance is fully settled. Under a hire purchase or PCP agreement, the finance company legally owns the vehicle until all payments are made. You cannot legally scrap, sell, or transfer ownership until the outstanding balance is cleared. Contact your lender for a settlement figure, pay it, and obtain written confirmation the agreement is closed. A personal unsecured loan not secured against the vehicle is different -- in that case you already own the car outright.

How much is an Audi Q5 worth for scrap?

An Audi Q5 (FY generation) is worth GBP 230 to GBP 370 for scrap and GBP 410 to GBP 630 for salvage in early 2026. The quattro transfer case components, 3.0 TDI engine, and S tronic gearbox are all in demand from independent VAG specialists. Q5 with an intact drivetrain should always be assessed for salvage before committing to a scrap price -- the premium over scrap can be GBP 200 to GBP 300.
