Why Do People Scrap Their Cars?

It’s rarely a happy day when a car reaches the end of the road, but we make the exit as smooth as possible.

MOT Failure

The repair bill exceeds the car's value. Common issues include rust, emissions, and suspension.

Accident Damage

Written off by insurance (Cat S/N) or just a parking bump that's too pricey to fix.

Non-Runner

Seized engine, snapped timing belt, or blown head gasket. We recover these daily.

SORN / Unused

Sitting on the drive gathering moss? You can scrap a car without tax or insurance.

High Mileage

Engines with 200k+ miles are often tired. We recycle the metal when the mechanicals give up.

ULEZ Non-Compliant

Older diesels facing daily charges in clean air zones are often better off scrapped.

What Affects Your Scrap Value?

Weight

The single biggest factor. A Range Rover contains twice the steel of a Corsa, meaning double the metal value.

Catalytic Converter

Contains platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Genuine original cats add significant value (£50-£200).

Running Condition

If it starts and drives, it opens up the 'salvage' market where buyers pay more for engines and gearboxes.

Make & Model

Prestige brands (Audi, BMW, Mercedes) often have higher demand for second-hand parts.

Metal Markets

Global prices for steel and aluminium fluctuate daily. We track these to give you the best daily rate.

Location

Your distance from our nearest Authorised Treatment Facility can slightly impact the collection cost absorbed.

Scrap vs. Salvage: What's the Difference?

Scrap means the car has reached the end of its useful life. It will be crushed, shredded, and recycled for raw materials (steel, glass, rubber).

Salvage means the car (or its parts) is too good to crush. Specialized buyers will dismantle it to sell the engine, gearbox, lights, and panels as green parts.

The Benefit to You: Salvage pays more. Often 20-50% more than scrap weight alone. Our system checks both markets instantly.

High Value Parts

Audi engines, gearboxes, and LED headlights are in high demand. Don't sell for scrap price if your car has salvage value.

How quickly can you collect my car?

In most areas, we offer same-day or next-day collection. If you get your quote and accept before midday, there’s a strong chance we can collect that same afternoon. At worst, we’ll have someone with you within 48 hours.

Do I need a V5C logbook to scrap my car?

It helps, but it’s not essential. If you’ve lost your V5C, you can still scrap your car by providing photo ID and proof of address, then writing to the DVLA separately. We guide you through the process.

Can I scrap a car that’s still on finance?

Not until the finance is settled. The finance company technically owns the vehicle until the balance is cleared. Once you’ve paid it off and received written confirmation, we can collect and scrap it as normal.

Will I get a road tax refund?

Yes. Once the DVLA processes the notification that your car has been scrapped, they automatically refund any full remaining months of road tax.

How do you pay me?

By bank transfer (BACS). This is the only legal payment method for scrapping vehicles in the UK under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. Cash payments are illegal.
