Scrap My Car
By Manufacturer

Every car reaches end of life. When repair costs exceed the vehicle’s value – or an MOT failure, accident write-off, or mechanical breakdown makes keeping it on the road uneconomical – scrapping or selling for salvage is the correct next step. The right price depends significantly on which manufacturer made your car.

This page covers all 22 manufacturers for which Scrap a Vehicle has dedicated pages, each with brand-specific mechanical faults, scrap and salvage pricing, legal requirements, and scrappage scheme history.

Legal Requirements

UK law requires all scrap cars to be processed at a licensed ATF (Authorised Treatment Facility). Cash payments are banned under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.

Licensed ATF Only

Only Authorised Treatment Facilities can legally process an end-of-life vehicle. Using an unlicensed buyer leaves you legally responsible for the vehicle.

No Cash Payments

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments. We pay via Bank Transfer (BACS) or cheque only. Refuse any cash offers.

Notify DVLA

Complete Section 9 of the V5C logbook or notify online at gov.uk. Failure to notify leaves you liable for road tax and fines.

Certificate of Destruction

The ATF must issue a CoD within 7 days. This is the official DVLA record that the vehicle has been permanently destroyed and deregistered.

EV Requirements

HV batteries (60V+) require an EV-certified ATF for safe discharge. Renault Zoe leases must be terminated with Renault Financial Services first.

Road Tax Refund

Remaining full months of VED (road tax) are refunded automatically by DVLA after deregistration. Arrives by cheque in 4-6 weeks.

Which car manufacturer gets the most for scrap?

Land Rover returns the highest scrap value of any brand in the UK - 56% above the national average in 2025 (ScrapCarComparison). Jaguar ranks 5th. Premium and larger vehicles return more because pricing is weight-based.

Which is the most scrapped car manufacturer in the UK?

Vauxhall is the most scrapped brand in 2025, accounting for 18.5% of all scrap vehicles. The Vauxhall Astra is the #1 scrapped individual model, ending the Ford Focus's 8-year reign.

Does the car brand affect scrap price? .

Yes. Scrap pricing is weight-based (heavier = more money), but salvage pricing is demand-based. A BMW or Audi has higher parts demand than a Fiat or Citroen, leading to better quotes

Do I need a different process to scrap an electric car?

Yes. All EVs with a high-voltage (60V+) battery require an ATF with EV certification for safe discharge. Renault Zoe (2012-2021) battery leases must be terminated before scrapping.

Is there a scrappage scheme for my brand in 2026?

Only Tesla has an active manufacturer scheme in 2026. All others (Ford, VW, Vauxhall) ended years ago. However, generic Clean Air Zone schemes (ULEZ) are available for non-compliant cars of any brand.

What documents do I need to scrap my car?

You need the V5C logbook (if available) and valid photo ID (driving licence or passport). You do not need an MOT, insurance, or keys (though keys help). The ATF notifies DVLA for you.

How is scrap value calculated?

Scrap value is calculated primarily by the vehicle's weight multiplied by the current scrap metal price. A heavier vehicle returns more. Salvage pricing reflects parts demand and can be significantly higher.
