What it’s worth

How much is my DS worth for scrap?

A DS 3 is typically worth £130 to £210 for scrap. A DS 4 is typically worth £180 to £280 for scrap. A DS 5 is typically worth £230 to £400 for scrap. Newer or damaged DS cars are often worth more for their parts, from £800 to £4,000+. Your price is based on the car itself, not just its weight, and a DS that does not run or has failed its MOT is still bought.

DS cars share their engines and many parts with Citroen and Peugeot, so the parts are easy to resell.

Common problems

Why do DS owners scrap their cars?

Timing chain and belt problems

The 1.6 THP petrol can stretch its timing chain, and the 1.2 PureTech has a timing belt that runs in oil and can wear early.

Diesel filter faults

The diesel engines can suffer diesel particulate filter (DPF) and additive system faults.

Accident damage

Newer DS models are often written off after an accident and are worth more for parts.

Your options

Should you scrap your DS or sell it?

Your DSBest option
Running, with a long MOT and no big faultsSelling it privately or part-exchanging it may get you more
Failed its MOT, or needs a repair that costs more than it is worthScrap it with us: free collection and same-day payment
Newer, or damaged in an accident, flood or fireSell it to us for salvage: the parts are worth far more than scrap
Not running, or off the road with a SORNScrap it with us: we collect it as it is

Scrap or salvage?

Scrap means the car is too old or worn to be worth repairing, so it is taken apart, the reusable parts are sold and the rest is recycled. Salvage means the car still has valuable parts, or could be repaired, so it is worth more. Your quote tells you which applies to your DS and shows you the higher figure.

Scrappage schemes

Is there a DS scrappage scheme?

We are not aware of a DS scrappage scheme running at the moment. Manufacturers and dealers sometimes run part-exchange offers on new cars, so it is worth asking your local dealer. If there is no offer, or you are not buying new, scrapping your DS with us usually gets you the most for it.

The rules

What you need to know before you scrap your DS

Every scrap car has to go to a licensed scrap yard. Our yards are dismantlers, licensed by the Environment Agency or its equivalent, so your DS is dealt with legally and the parts that can be reused are put to use. By law, scrap cars cannot be paid for in cash, so you are paid by bank transfer the same day.

Have your keys, your logbook (V5C) and photo ID ready when the driver arrives. We tell the DVLA the car has been scrapped, and within 7 days you get a Certificate of Destruction, the official proof it has gone. Any road tax you have paid is refunded automatically.

DS scrap questions

How much is my DS worth for scrap?

Most DS cars we buy are worth between £130 and £520 for scrap, depending on the model and its condition. Newer or damaged DS cars can be worth £800 to £4,000+ for their parts. Enter your reg and postcode for your exact price.

Will you buy a DS that does not run or has failed its MOT?

Yes. We buy every DS as it is, whether it runs or not, has failed its MOT or has been off the road with a SORN. Collection is free.

Do you buy DS cars with faults like timing chain and belt problems?

Yes. The 1.6 THP petrol can stretch its timing chain, and the 1.2 PureTech has a timing belt that runs in oil and can wear early. We price your DS on its parts and weight, so a big repair bill does not stop us buying it.

Is there a DS scrappage scheme?

We are not aware of one running at the moment. Dealers sometimes run part-exchange offers on new cars, so it is worth asking. If you are not buying new, scrapping with us usually gets you the most for your DS.

Is my DS worth more for parts than scrap?

Often, yes, if it is newer or has been damaged. Your quote already takes this into account, so you will see the higher figure.

Can I scrap my DS without the logbook (V5C)?

Yes. Have photo ID and proof of address ready instead, and we will tell the DVLA for you. It does not change your price.

How will I be paid for my DS?

By bank transfer, the same day it is collected. By law scrap cars cannot be paid for in cash, so be wary of anyone who offers it.

What happens to my DS after it is collected?

Our yards are dismantlers, so the parts that can be reused are sold and the rest is recycled. We tell the DVLA for you and you get a Certificate of Destruction, the official proof the car has gone, within 7 days.
