What it’s worth

How much is my Smart worth for scrap?

A Smart ForTwo is typically worth £130 to £210 for scrap. A Smart ForFour is typically worth £130 to £210 for scrap. A Smart EQ ForTwo (electric) is typically worth £130 to £210 for scrap. Newer or damaged Smart cars are often worth more for their parts, from £800 to £4,000+. Your price is based on the car itself, not just its weight, and a Smart that does not run or has failed its MOT is still bought.

Smart cars are very light, so the scrap price sits at the low end of our range. Electric models are worth more because of the battery.

Common problems

Why do Smart owners scrap their cars?

Automatic gearbox faults

The automated gearbox on older ForTwos can suffer actuator and clutch problems, leaving the car stuck in neutral.

Engine failure

Some older petrol ForTwos can suffer engine failure, and a replacement often costs more than the car is worth.

Electric battery faults

An electric Smart with a battery or charging fault can be costly to repair, but the battery still has value.

Your options

Should you scrap your Smart or sell it?

Your SmartBest option
Running, with a long MOT and no big faultsSelling it privately or part-exchanging it may get you more
Failed its MOT, or needs a repair that costs more than it is worthScrap it with us: free collection and same-day payment
Newer, or damaged in an accident, flood or fireSell it to us for salvage: the parts are worth far more than scrap
Not running, or off the road with a SORNScrap it with us: we collect it as it is

Scrap or salvage?

Scrap means the car is too old or worn to be worth repairing, so it is taken apart, the reusable parts are sold and the rest is recycled. Salvage means the car still has valuable parts, or could be repaired, so it is worth more. Your quote tells you which applies to your Smart and shows you the higher figure.

Scrappage schemes

Is there a Smart scrappage scheme?

We are not aware of a Smart scrappage scheme running at the moment. Manufacturers and dealers sometimes run part-exchange offers on new cars, so it is worth asking your local dealer. If there is no offer, or you are not buying new, scrapping your Smart with us usually gets you the most for it.

The rules

What you need to know before you scrap your Smart

Every scrap car has to go to a licensed scrap yard. Our yards are dismantlers, licensed by the Environment Agency or its equivalent, so your Smart is dealt with legally and the parts that can be reused are put to use. By law, scrap cars cannot be paid for in cash, so you are paid by bank transfer the same day.

Have your keys, your logbook (V5C) and photo ID ready when the driver arrives. We tell the DVLA the car has been scrapped, and within 7 days you get a Certificate of Destruction, the official proof it has gone. Any road tax you have paid is refunded automatically.

Smart scrap questions

How much is my Smart worth for scrap?

Most Smart cars we buy are worth between £130 and £210 for scrap, depending on the model and its condition. Newer or damaged Smart cars can be worth £800 to £4,000+ for their parts. Enter your reg and postcode for your exact price.

Will you buy a Smart that does not run or has failed its MOT?

Yes. We buy every Smart as it is, whether it runs or not, has failed its MOT or has been off the road with a SORN. Collection is free.

Do you buy Smart cars with faults like automatic gearbox faults?

Yes. The automated gearbox on older ForTwos can suffer actuator and clutch problems, leaving the car stuck in neutral. We price your Smart on its parts and weight, so a big repair bill does not stop us buying it.

Is there a Smart scrappage scheme?

We are not aware of one running at the moment. Dealers sometimes run part-exchange offers on new cars, so it is worth asking. If you are not buying new, scrapping with us usually gets you the most for your Smart.

Is my Smart worth more for parts than scrap?

Often, yes, if it is newer or has been damaged. Your quote already takes this into account, so you will see the higher figure.

Can I scrap my Smart without the logbook (V5C)?

Yes. Have photo ID and proof of address ready instead, and we will tell the DVLA for you. It does not change your price.

How will I be paid for my Smart?

By bank transfer, the same day it is collected. By law scrap cars cannot be paid for in cash, so be wary of anyone who offers it.

What happens to my Smart after it is collected?

Our yards are dismantlers, so the parts that can be reused are sold and the rest is recycled. We tell the DVLA for you and you get a Certificate of Destruction, the official proof the car has gone, within 7 days.
